Description
Promotion of ecotourism, both locally and internationally, has uccessfully established a new brand of tourism centered on the principles of sustainable travel and tourism. Ecotourism can possibly be a neat solution for protected area conservation as it has a suitable strategy for reducing the environmental impacts of tourism. Community-based ecotourism is characterized as an ecotourism endeavor that places significant emphasis on environmental conservation, involves active engagement of the local community, provides them with increased control, and offers the potential for benefits to the host population. A significant amount of literature exists on the subject of and its influence on the conservation of protected areas. Hence, this study aims to conduct a systematic review of already available literature on Community-based Ecotourism and the Conservation of Protected Areas in Asia by investigating “what we know”, “how we know”, and “from where we know”. To ensure a systematic review process, the inclusion and exclusion criteria of literature have been aligned with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol. Through a four-step procedure comprising identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion, the initial pool of 71 articles was effectively narrowed down to 32 for inclusion. Thirty-two articles that were selected to answer the three major questions, i.e., “What we know” “How we know” and “From where we know” of this study underwent a content analysis.
